However, sometimes it seems that most players don’t know how to be consistently vertical at contact.

The methods that keep the ball in play are simple,but elusive until you uncover them for yourself. My goal is to help you discover how to be consistently vertical at contact.

Until this point in the book, you haven’t had a way to gauge your own swing or even practice accurately. I want to share with you one of the most powerful methods of keeping the racquet vertical at contact.

You can practice this anywhere and always see how accurate your swing is.

Practicing your swing against a fence or a wall is an aid to being consistently vertical at contact.

Use bright or even plain masking tape to make an X which will represent the contact point. It’s really that simple.  

使用亮的或者甚至平的遮蓋膠布來製作代表接觸點的 X。它真的就是那麼簡單。 

Take your time and practice arriving at the contact point in a vertical position. If it feels awkward make sure your lead foot is in the proper position.

This is important, that the contact point is in correct position in relation to your body. When you are ready, try to swing smoothly and slowly, like slow motion, focusing on programming your muscles.

Swinging fast is not the important thing. Even when you swing in slow motion, you’re grooving a muscle memory that will stay with you. Take your racquet with you everywhere.

When you have 10 or 15 minutes at home or at work, stretch out a little bit and find a wall to practice on. You really can teach your muscles to arrive at the contact point vertically and you don’t have to be on the court to do it.

The forehand:

Fig. 53 The racquet is now at the low point of the backswing. The racquet face is closed and the palm of the hand is facing down. Notice the lead foot is right up to the fence. From this point simply swing from the shoulder and the racquet should meet the X on the fence (representing the contact point) in a vertical position.

53 網拍現在在背後拉拍的低點。 網拍面被關閉,而且手掌面下。注意前腳正對在圍牆上。 由這點單純地從肩膀揮拍,而且網拍應該在一個垂直的位置中碰到圍牆上的X(代表接觸點) 。

It’s only on your strings milliseconds. Simply hit through and finish high letting the shoulder touch the chin.  

它只有在你的拍線上停留毫秒。單單打擊過去而且完成收尾在高位, 讓肩膀碰觸下巴。                                       

                                                                         

The Two-Handed Backhand:

雙手反拍:                    

Fig 56-57-58 Remember, for a right-handed player hitting a two-handed backhand is like hitting a left handed forehand. Use the same key points as the forehand.

56-57-58 記得,慣用右手的球員打雙手反拍就像一個左手持拍者打正手拍一般。使用與正手拍相同的關鍵點。 

 

The one-handed backhand:

單手反拍:

Fig. 59 Notice the lead foot is approximately a foot to a foot-and-a-half away from the fence. This will give you the proper contact point for the one-handed backhand. The racquet face is closed using the non-hitting hand on the throat of the racquet to let you know it's in this position.

Throughout this book, hopefully you've noticed, I've repeated myself time and again. There's a reason for this. I believe that many times what players need most are reminders.
